CD Arrakis:

"... nur all zu oft handelt es sich bei Debütalben um Aufnahmen, die ca. 48 Stunden nach Erwerb des dazugehörigen Equipments entstanden sind und dann auch dementsprechend klingen. Die Debüt-CD von Peter Dominik Bender ist eine bemerkenswerte Ausnahme. Endlich mal kein TD-, Jarre- oder Schulze-Klon, sondern jemand, der seine eigene Handschrift erkennen läßt. Obwohl zugänglich, ist die Musik dennoch nicht simpel aufgebaut. Neben einem guten Gespür für passende Melodien hat Bender auch noch ein Händchen für hübsche musikalische Details, wie etwa den Einsatz von Wind und Wasser im Titelstück. Außerdem vermitteln die zumeist 7-8 minütigen Stücke vielvon der Freude, mit der sie gemacht wurden ..." (WAVES #19, 1993)

"... nun kommt Peter Dominik Bender daher und läßt die Wüste ein wenig zur Oase werden. Um es vorweg zu nehmen; für einen Newcomer eine außergewöhnliche und gelungene Produktion. Der "Wüstenplanet" verspricht dem Liebhaber der elektronischen Musik keine trockene Hausmannskost. Rhythmische Figuren mit viel Eigendynamik und einigen Höhepunkten (z.B. "Arrakis") sind auf dieser Scheibe in neun Stücken à ca. 8 Minuten untergebracht. Sprachfetzen findet man ebenso, wie Sequenzen und Flächen, die dem Gesamtwerk eine besondere Note verleihen ..." "... a series of nine compositions by German synthesist Bender inspired by Frank Herbert's classic novel "Dune (Arrakis - der Wüstenplanet)" is an aural feast for the imagination. "Delta Pavonis/Sun of Caladan", about the sun that shines on Paul Atreides' home planet, is a majestic synthscape with great balance of sampling, analog and digital sound sources with some wonderful warm Oberheim melodies. "Arrakis" is mysterious and ominous, with some excellent patches on Bender's M1 creating an art of mystique. The cinematic scope of albums like this one are helping to expand the parameters of progressive instrumental music ..." (i/e magazine, spring 1994)

"... if ever there was an award for creating soundtraks for books, then Peter Dominik Bender would win it hands down. There is however the small matter of Brian Eno's own score for the desert planet and I'm not sure if Bender is trying to better it or simply say, "Well if I'd done it, then this is how it would have sounded". We won't mention it again because although Eno's work was an milestone in itself, this proves that one man can create a masterpiece in his bedroom and I'm not talking about the expressionist art of crushed beer cans. The wonderful thing about this CD is that normally irritating sounds fit nicely into the scheme of things - the dripping water on the title track (signifying the importance of every drop of water on Arrakis). Jarre-esque in almost every way, this sixty-eight minute long interpretation of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel is filled with moments Jean-Michel is probably wishing he'd written. The high points are "IX" and the incredibly lamentable "Visions". The lows -well there aren't any really, though the remixed "Arrakis" isn't exactly an improvement of the origional. Cosidering that Arrakis is a giant dust ball with its surface covered with feuding families and mile-long sandworms it's surprising that the soundtrack to such a world could be beautiful. Nevertheless it is. Atmospheric fans will love this ..." (Cyber Noise #4, 1994)

"... based upon the Frank Herbert novel "Dune", this electronic music by a new German artist is an excellent example of how to focus on a subject. Sometimes it is a good idea to use a theme to write around as the compositions flow easier. From reading the sleeve notes it is quite apparent that there is a little concern that the music might be too specific, in that listeners who have neither read the book nor seen the film might not appreciate the music. Fortunately, whether the listener is or is not familiar with Dune is rendered irrelevant as the music easily stands for itself. Better still, an album such as this is proof positive that electronic music is flourishing and new artists are making fresh new statements. German synth music at its finest ..." (TRAX #5, 1994)

MC Caladan:

"... das eigenständigste und wohl auch interessanteste Stück ist "Arrakis". In einer Höhle heult der Matrix-Wind und Wasser tropft von der Decke. Die Tropfen fallen rhythmisch und fügen sich in den interessanten Rhythmus ein. Aber nicht nur rhythmische sondern auch kosmische Passagen findet man auf der Kassette. Und in "Salusa Secundus" wird es sogar etwas jazzig. Bei dem Titel "Tleilax" wurden einige Anleihen an Peter Mergeners Musik gemacht. Ansonsten liegt aber hier ein eigenständiges und schönes Debütwerk des Newcomers aus Düsseldorf vor. Auf der MC findet man verschiedenste Stücke, die aber trotzdem immer gut zusammenpassen. Diese Kassette, die mir besser gefällt als so manche CD-Veröffentlichung, beweist, daß sich auch der Kauf von Kassetten durchaus lohnen kann ..." (WAVES #10, 1991)
